You can tell they’re NOT connected with “THE WEATHER CHANNEL” where “%50 chance of rain” means: I DON’T KNOW!

Hey Gramps. What did you do before the Weather Channel?

We looked out the window. (old joke but still true)

I’d like to go outside for a walk but I’m too busy watching The Weather Channel.

We once had a “weather pot” with the following message:

    If the pot is: wet - it’s raining white - it’s snowing moving - it’s windy invisible - it’s foggy (or dark) missing - it’s a hurricane

I really like the idea of ultra-local expertise. Not only does it reduce the 50% uncertainty that FUNG1 is so rightly sick and tired of, but it is just a lot more fun, like everyone’s hobbies always used to be.

There probably really are lots of wonky people in retirement communities who have the time to spend their days being the resident expert in getting their neighbors’ e-mail attachments to open, flowers artfully arranged, cats cared for during trips, and the list could be endless.

It’s a hellalot better than feeling bored and worthless. And a lot of “neighborhoods” could really use some heartfelt volunteerism if they want to be true communities.
