Liz: Are you really going to EAT that? Do you know how many CALORIES are in that donut? ...and how much FAT?...and how much SUGAR? I'll split it with you.
Garfield: The donut or the guilt?
I’m surprised he didn’t just grab the donut and toss it down his throat. That’s what he always does to Jon.
Which would be like lighting up in front of your doctor after he/she has just warned you about the dangers of smoking. Remember, Liz isn’t just Jon’s girlfriend; she’s also Garfield’s veterinarian. Therefore, she can lecture Garfield about his health habits and get away with it because it’s her job.
But it’s still funny that she offered to go halvsies on both the donut and the guilt. :)
… I say test the depth of her expertise as a Veterinarian; take the donut sharing only the hole with the doctor and then find out how well she helps you deal with the guilt!
I don’t think Garfield has ever taken a half of anything before!…………….. I agree green, when it comes to indulgence, Garfield knows not of the concept of fractions.
Garfield is not used to being challenged. He’s king of his world (as are most cats). To have Liz actually challenge his right (or want) to take the last donut was so surprising that he is paralyzed in shock.
Why’d he try to talk her out of eating the donut? Why didn’t he just swipe it and run? Maybe Garfield realizes that Liz is The One for Jon. Jon loves her for real. He can’t antagonize her without hurting or losing Jon. Also, I think all of this is true for Liz regarding Garfield. She sees Jon as A Keeper, so she decided not to deny the cat completely. I
I wonder if Jon knows he is in a love triangle with his old cat and his old cat’s doctor? Obviously, Liz and Garfield already see it. Their motto is “Don’t rock the boat!” and that’ll be Jon’s motto too –but when?
