So you say, but we’ll all be back tomorrow for more of Gertie and Earl, won’t we?

I can’t wait for more of Bird and Gertie. I like seeing some new faces. Like NotNorman, I myself have read GA for years. But its time for some new faces and new plots, rather than same-o same-o.

The drawings of the junkyard just crack me up. That’s recycling for ya.

The strips are done months ahead. There’s no way comments here will influence the course of events. I for one prefer to sit back and enjoy.

It’s good to have Gasoline Alley back … even though its probably only for one day.

NotNormanChubsyUbsy says: “I’ve been reading GA for over 50 years and generally like it. When I come back tomorrow, it will be in hope that Scancarelli has come to his senses and wrapped up the Gertie and Earl arc, which I think is the worst ever.”

Perhaps you and some others are overstating your agony, then. I can’t buy the idea of any thinking person (or even clever animal) clicking that GA link day after day if the result were so painful to his sensibilities, and the clever repartee of the complaining contingent makes clear that they are thinking individuals. The principles of operant conditioning suggest that a result perceived as negative would cause a rapid decrease in the causative behavior, and that certainly makes sense to me.

Stringmuse is right in saying that the course of the story is set, and will play out regardless of caterwauling, and I am with her in sitting back and enjoying. Obviously, too, since you are the one who posted the link to the promotional page with upcoming strips, you are aware that Monday won’t be the day this actually quite charming storyline ends. If you check in anyway, it must mean Jim has you hooked on the story of Earl and Gertie, despite what you claim. In any case, kudos again to Jim for shaking things up! If people are arguing every day about a strip this old, he’s doing something right!

NotNorman - If the Gertie arc is the worst one you’ve seen in 50 years you really don’t have much to fuss about. Sit back and ride this one out and let the rest of us enjoy it in peace. Being a cantankerous old coot is one thing. It can even be charming. Being a cantankerous old coot who keeps going on and on is another.

At least you can say this about Bird and Gertie: I used to have to read the Dick Tracy comments to get this level of dispute, but now it has reached GA. That, I believe, is a credit to the strip. I have been around quite a few years myself, and have read through some stories that I didn’t love. All the while I had to respect the brilliant artwork, and Jim’s handling of this classic strip. I also fully respect others’ opinions and realize that what I like doesn’t always line up with what they like. I don’t often post here. I just keep my thoughts to myself and appreciate that others share my sentiments and express them nicely. I wonder if that makes me “personally repulsive as well”.

When I think of all you’ve said about Mr. Scancarelli, NNCU, I will wear the comment as a badge of honor, considering the source.

Back to the current strip: It reminds me of my thoughts when I am at the supermarket, and the irony of seeing morbidly obese people using the electric scooters provided for the disabled.

Would at least some of these folks not need these scooters if they walked just a little bit more?

Not Norman, you called him a racist. You have done your best to insult his work in so many ways. Get real.

Not Norman, Oh, I get it. It was the characters you were reporting to the ACLU. Earl Lee and Gertie. They were acting like racists. Pardon me.

NotFromIceland, I apologize to you and I agree with you completely.

My dismay is a reaction to the negativity here and not the strip itself. I realize that by responding I am contributing to it. But sometimes you just gotta say what’s on your mind.

Not Norman if you don’t like the story, go on to the next comment and don’t reply! Your continual whining is very annoying!
