I am surprised there wasnā€™t a special strip commemorating Memorial Day.

Ludwig, I suspect the residents of Gasoline Alley know, as I do, that Memorial Day is supposed to be May 30, Monday holidays be d**ned.

So heā€™s left town? Oh poor Gertie.

NONE of the comics today are related to Memorial Day. Iā€™m quite surprised.

Dypak, I met Nancy artist Guy Gilchrist at a store appearance. Very pleasant and sincere, very dedicated to teaching cartooning at his school.

Stringmuseā€“ I agree, we need some more musicā€“ an encore. This has been a great run so far, and Iā€™ll be sorry to see it end. I encourage Jim to keep taking chances, and to keep delivering the goods.

Iā€™m an old-timey Gasoline Alley fan, who just found the strip after years away. Iā€™m not exactly sure who these new characters are the past week or so, but they are somewhat interesting to me. I donā€™t think I can backtrack much, but will give it a try.

When my kids were younger my wife and I read to them everyday. They grew out of kids books pretty fast and we started reading real books to them. Just So Stories, by Kipling. Mark Twainā€™s Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, plus alot of his short stories. All of the Discworld books. The list goes on and on. Anyway I could always hear all the voices in my head. Tom, Huck and Jim. Bagehra and Sher Khan (sorry, poor spelling, I know). The authors were so good the dialogue just came alive. When a book, or a comic, is well written the dialogue can leap out at you. I feel sorry for you if itā€™s never happened to you. To paraphrase Will Geer from the Guns of Will Sonnett TV show, ā€˜Not smary or smug, just fact.ā€ ā€”- Axe - Iā€™ve really enjoyed Nancy since theyā€™ve updated it. It still has this 30ā€™s charm to it but is still modern for my students to enjoy it. I often print it off and post it on my bulletin board in class.

OK, apparently I cannot go back more than 7 days. How much did I miss? Iā€™ve come to the theater late.

Sorry about that, an old teacher joke. No, I teach history to 8th graders. Iā€™m in my second career. Becoming a teacher was the one of the best choices Iā€™ve ever made in my life. The kids are great, they want to learn. I enjoy every day at work. ā€“ Now please, donā€™t everyone start picking at my grammar and spelling. I typo just like the rest of you!

    Dypak, Life is good, then.

Marseydotes, Gertie is Walt Walletā€™s housekeeper. She has fallen for a musician named Earl, who chased her, and even proposed. She turned him down, but now has second thoughts. The trouble is, she canā€™t find him now.
