Exactly why is Dick called a great detective? Again with the arms, and I wonder if they will want an exclusive on the perfume? And who made up the contracts for it in the first place? If the doc moved into the neighborhood recently, and had only just met Tess and her cronies, then he is one fast operator. And how can you operate a chemical lab in a residential neighborhood?
Another glorious shot of detective Dick Tracy braving the elements (in panel one), without any headgare. Once there was a hat. Now a ‘personal’ emblem, a rubber duckie, trumps all reality. While Tess in full naive flight has fully adopted the Angelorious stance of arms stretched out wide open, as if she is about to take off or “land”.
It was being suggested about a month back that with TMS recalling Locher suddemly he had a problem coping with getting a new story (this one) together. ODD, if there IS, as we now hear, a requirement to submit the story “outline” months in advance for Editorial approval. In other words, the current tale must have been approved way back in October as the Artist (17 weeks ahead of publication) was putting the finishing touches on the Braces case.
Sorry to be a “kill-joy” but if the case continues to ‘travel’ where it seems to be pointing, it appears once again we have a major dissapointment !
Grok, You tend to make the same mistake I do. You think the story is being written for us. NOT SO! Back in those heady and ‘exciting’ planning days the idea, to use Kilian’s phrasing was:
“What we are trying to do, what we want most to do, is what we think Chester Gould would do, which is to expand the readership base by reaching out to a ‘new generation’ of readers with new, more contemporay characters and more topical stories …”
So Locher, apparently still trapped in that “time-warp” writes stories for Little Johnie sitting on Daddy’s knee. Don’t mind, that that, audience simply does not ‘exist’, but in his ‘mind’, (trapped in the past) they DO, and he crafts his stories for that little kiddie corner mind set with all it’s usual simplicities and contradictions.
NOT for us!
Tracy couldn’t get the good doctors name out of his head.
“Ethan Noll…Ethan Noll”?
He wondered if whatever Tess saw in the Bozo was relate to her recent fall off the wagon.
“Could his name be the reason Tess is getting blasted again?…Naw, too much of a coincidence” Tracy thought to himself as he wiped the snow off his coat and onto the rug.
Tess felt more alive then she had in years!
“Life IS good”, she shouted as she continued to practice the dance moves sweet Angelorious taught her.
Seeing Tracy enter the house, she excitedly yelled to him.
“Dick, Angelorious just called. Her company wants an exclusive on our perfume”.
Meanwhile, back at Liam’s office, he continued to speak to Angelorious.
“Remember Angelorious, we want an exclusive”. He sternly instructed her as he wondered how his pants changed from black to white.
What’s funny is that people over at the Comics Curmudgeon had been jokingly refering to Dr. Noll as Ethan Noll for weeks, long before it was finally revealed to be his true name in the strip. Coincidence, of course, but still…
In Panel#1, the snow flakes are almost as big as the bubbles leading to Tracy’s thought. It looks like Tracy is having other random thoughts that are documented off the panel that we don’t get to see. I bet he is thinking how hungry he is for a good sandwich, and to remember where his left-hand glove went.
I missed a couple days, and wow the plot advancement! Much more gripping than some of the Robo-Dick days, although panel#3 kind of lost me. Is this perfume supposed to be exclusive or something?? (just kidding)

Appears that Angelorious’s arm rigidity is contagious. Side effect of chemicals?
