Quick tracy, you twit, call for backup. Let me get this straight. Tracy bursts into a casino waving a gun, not announcing nor displaying identification that he is a police officer. I certainly hope the judge throws the book at him, strips him of his badge and locks his decrepit bleeep away for eternity.
One Adam 12, One Adam 12, Man with a gun, Jacks Casino, 1234 lame plot lane, repeat man with a gun, Jacks Casino 1234 lame plot lane. Be advised, SWAT is in route.
I’m with Margueritem, for a story that started out so promising, wtf happened??? I certainly award today’s strip with the “slap-dash” award of the month!
It’s really a shame about the face in panel 3 because the rest of it looks pretty good … I suppose Tracy isn’t using his service revolver because he’s gone rogue with this case!!!
LudwigVonDrake says:
…and starring Danny Thomas as Dick Tracy!
And he stops to ask the henchman (played again by William Frawley) “WHICH WAY?”
I think we’re witnessing the debut of the new Brozman-style Tracy face, although the latest batch of samples (early-to-mid May) on Brozman’s bio at the TMS site seems to indicate that it may improve somewhat over time.
Heck! The noze in panel three is like a Chinese chopper. The pin stripe tie is one thing, but a gun is not needed here just run that chizzle into your opponent.
Where is “back-up” and “communications expert” Teevo? Hiding in the Cleaners van? Doesn’t he pack heat, or only a pencil?
On the positive side two things please me 1) Tracy has started to look younger (panel 2) not like Locher about to retire next week. 2) The Sunday page actually had three panels moving the story forward. That’s a “light year” jump in the world of Locher’s Tracy.
Perhaps we’re feeling more improvement from Brozman’s presence. Not just “stale” Sunday bread.
But try to fix the “steps” to the Casino. They look like an exercise machine, the kind boxers run up.
I often try to write this before reading the other posts. But, “Nurpleberg PD”? It seems “Nipple-berg PD” might be a better fit.(?)
The coat change? Another example of scant attention paid to correct detail.
The good: The story advances and puts Tracy inside the Casino and we don’t get a day of him in a van recapping or explaining to us what a wire is and where the plan went wrong.
The bad: CLEANERS.
Tracy’s face (as has been said) is not “Tracy”.
Would anybody be interested in this? I propose to redraw each days strip and at the end of the week, I’ll link them or post them somewhere else. Not forever, but for a month or so because the apologists need to see that it can be done better.
Margueritem,
And yet, with all its flaws, this story is still better than the Dr. Noll perfume caper. Or the MechaDick Disaster. I’m betting Tracy finds BO and OEJ sitting having a few laughs together.
kerowac, I noted your post yesterday, and the stated intent today, to “draw over”, then post one weeks strips up, where readers can access it. To appreciate what CAN and should be done.
Starting tomorrow (or today if I decide to redraw todays strip) I’ll do it and link the results when I’m done. I teach and we are putting on a play at school, so it may be a bit more than a week, but not much more…
Dick Tracy may be a hero for a past era, but in an age where CSI is popular and Batman, Superman and heroes of the 30s and 40s are INCREDIBLY popular, it’s a little bit crazy to think that Dick Tracy doesn’t have some place today.
Comic Strips are HURTING today, but they aren’t dead yet. I’m going to redraw the strip to hopefully prove that decent art would be a step forward…
I have a great idea for a Tracy strip in my head. If my art gets a warm reception, I’ll go ahead with it.

~ Sure, I’ll take a look at what you come up with.
kerowack,
I like DT just as he is, flaws and all. I don’t know if this falls in the category of armchair quarterbacking but I’d rather see your original art, rather than a redrawn DT. As several after Mr. Gould have already proven, it’s not that difficult to draw DT. What’s apparently hard is to do it day after day and keep it fresh. I’ll stick with funny noses and odd shaped hands, thanks. Like my 20 year old pick up truck. It may not be pretty, but I’m used to it.

OMG, what the heck happened to Tracy’s schnoz in panel 3? And this story, which started out so well is being as lame as a one legged ballerina.

Good thing Tracy put his coat on before he went into the casino.

I disagree about the storyline, I think it is 1 of the better ones 2 appear in the strip in quite some time…

Tracy looks a lot cooler without the lame trench coat. Ditch the coat, Tracy.

Not only do the story lines stink but so does the artwork. Time to bury this strip and let it rest in piece.
