Not only did the plot not advance, it actually retreated.
I suppose we’ll have the next several days to rewatch Ollie murder that guard.

Fw what is your problem Warbucks is self made man a good American and a philanthropist, he also treats his employees well. I know in the real world he should probably go to the proper authorities instead of fighting them himself but that is part of the willing suspension of disbelief of fiction and well nobody cares about brand new characters who we probably will never see again. His captors are ruthless criminals, mobsters, murderers, people who profit by exploiting the innocent, he has never hurt anyone who did not have it coming. It’s a statement about how the justice system doesn’t do enough to fight criminals. Annie once said something like when crooks use pull and money to get off then the only way to get them punished is for honest men like Warbucks to use pull and money and gunmen too and beat them at their own game.
Warbucks is a corrupter, he is inherently evil.
He makes his ill-gotten gains on the misery of mankind (Warbucks, get it?).
He’s arrogant, plutocratic and obnoxious.
I’m only sad that they didn’t spend weeks showing him getting the poop beat out of him before killing his character off for good!
You are destined to go through life being sad, fwdixon, if you let this mere comic strip get your shorts in a knot. Warbucks is always going to be one of the “good guys” in this strip. Best get over it.
The writers of serial “comic” strips such as Annie have to be aware that some newspapers subscribe only to the Sunday edition of their strips, some only to the weekday edition, and some to both. To accommodate for this situation, the strips are written so that the Sunday only readers and the weekday only readers can both follow the story. This means there is considerable duplication of the story between the Sunday and weekday editions. So, out of consideration of those who don’t read these on-line, and who get only the weekday or only the Sunday editions, let’s stop complaining about the Sunday strip duplicating the weekday strips.
It could be worse: The Sunday edition of Alley Oop exactly duplicates the weekday panels.
You make it sound like he is a war profiteer, yes he started out as worker and eventual foreman of a munitions factory but like it or not we need them to build weapons for the military to defend our rights and freedoms that we so often take for granted. He doesn’t want conflict he wants America safe he loves his country. Most self-made men are somewhat arrogant though given all he’s been through and accomplished maybe he has a right to be a little arrogant. He is a philanthropist.
He’s not Mr. Morals, but his hearts in the right place. For whatever reason, he adopted an orphan, and loves her as his own bio daughter. He’d turn around and relock himself up if Annie was captured and that would set her free.

He’s like Han Solo. Han was a smuggler. But still a good guy deep down. Han originally walked away from the Rebellion, after he delivered Obi Wan and Luke per agreement. Rescuing Leia was a side task. He owed them nothing more. But he returned, because at the end of the day, he’s still a good guy.
Warbucks is the same. He might not do the moral and ethical thing all the time, but he’s still a good guy, still trying to protect everyone’s freedom. Yes, it’s wrong to steal secrets from a cyborg’s mind (Privacy rights), but those secrets were stolen to help people, not hurt them. The secrets he found were designed to hurt people, and he stopped that from happening. That’s what’s most important, not always how it’s done.
Don’t forget that these characters were created in 1924 (before the last Great Depression) and capitalists and, after winning WWI, war industrialists were considered patriotic citizens and often idolized.
