Alice is so worldly when it comes to condiments.

And Dill has very avant-garde tastes. No ordinary paste for him!

Was it a name-brand catsup or generic?

I’d rather use glue than catsup as a condiment. It’s got no place at my dinner table.

I’m 58 years old and exposure to ketchup still makes me cringe.

Glue as a condiment — I can see that if you want meals that “stick to your ribs” — so maybe Dill is on to something here.

I’ve avoided it since I read a WSJ article about the percentages of bug and rodent and mold that our government thinks are “allowable/acceptable”. People who like to eat with a bottle of that at the table- eeewww!

I love ketchup, and mustard tastes like puke to me.

Still, De gustibus non disputandum est, and surely even the Index must factor in that someone who insists on putting ketchup on everything is as picky as someone who will never allow ketchup to pass his lips.

You and I will just have to agree to disagree on this one, Grog, and if you ever see me at the ballpark I suggest you avert your eyes.

Crassus: “Tell me, Antoninus… Do you eat oysters?” Antoninus: “When I have them, master.”Crassus: “Do you eat snails?” Antoninus: “No, master.”Crassus: “Do you consider the eating of oysters to be moral and the eating of snails to be immoral?Antoninus: “No, master.”Crassus: “Of course not. It is all a matter of taste, isn’t it?” Antoninus: “Yes, master.”Crassus: “And taste is not the same as appetite, and therefore not a question of morals.”Antoninus: “It could be argued so, master.” Crassus: “My robe, Antoninus. My taste includes both snails and oysters…”

Where is the word usage line drawn between catsup and ketchup? I grew up in Canada not liking ketchup. When I moved to the US I encountered the usage “catsup”. I didn’t like it any better that way. Over in the UK it was “tomato sauce” and just as bad.

I prefer “ketchup”, but then again that’s how Heinz spells it and that’s my brand… Either is acceptable.

True, Fritzoid- I do not mind a little dirt from my garden either, but touring factories back in my childhood and knowing that really dirty insects and rodents prowl in them (and I had a mouse in a coke bottle that I bought in a coin machine)! Only like salt on fries (and they must be dry and crisp)-never touching wet food on the plate! As to condiments on burgers or hotdogs- only a hot mustard or a mix with horseradish- and I like my relish to be dill rather than sweet pickles!

I now never normally eat any processed food of any kind (so it is a rather lame discussion) but I still have some of those -fries, burgers and dogs once in a great while.

I think either K or C spelling is the same product- not sure about brit tomato sauce (my sauce is homemade with onions, garlic and red wine-and I now add pureed brocolli to my pizza sauce
