Way back in my glory days of softball-playing, there was usually a rule against deliberately hitting the ball back at the pitcher. Softball pitchers are 60 feet from the batter, while hardball pitchers are 90 feet. A big guy could easily hurt a pitcher with a line drive. New softballs are NOT soft.
