Monty: It all started back in first grade... my family had just moved to a new town... I had no friends in school... and my parents were busy fixing up the new house. My only companion was a stuffed toy weasel named Hume. dad, Humae and I are... Dad: not now, son... I'm busy. Monty: It was sometime in the midst of this sad, lonely period that a miracle occurred... my old friend Hume came to life! Weasel: Dude, somebody needs to crack a window... I think these paint vapors are messin' with your head.

Oh good, Hume’s abusive. Maybe he’ll smoke and drink beer, too.

Young Monty, especially in panel 4, looks a bit like Milhouse from The Simpsons. Maybe it was just the paint vapors that brought Hume to life in Monty’s head. I sense deliberate satire of Calvin and Hobbes coming….

I’m trying to picture a weasel with a Scottish accent.
On a different note, I find it remarkable I am currently reading a biography of another member of the Scottish Enlightenment, James Hutton, when lo and behold, David Hume pops up in the strip in such an unlikely manner – it’s a little spooky…

Did the wall behind Lil’ Monty change color three times or are those fumes are messing with my head, too?

Hume, man, what are talking about?

Yeah, that changing wall color is gonna be fun to explain with empiricism.

Since Watterson stopped doing the strip and became a hermit, I don’t see how he can object to someone else picking up the torch.

Has no one noticed Monty’s wearing the SAME outfit as Calvin?

I suspect the colorists are having issues with “fumes” too.

Which strip was it once did a C&H parody called “Luther and Locke”?

It looks like Jim is paying homage to Clavin and Hobbs and well as Krazy Kat (the changing backgrounds) with this arc. These are the two best strips from the past, IMHO.

A modern day Calvin and Hobbs.
