The trick here is remembering that Hobbes is in Calvin’s head…..and that the arguing is designed to push Dad to the edge……..

I always thought Hobbes was in the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, dreaming of suburbia and a pet boy after eating his fill of antelope.

Just ask Bill Cosby about ‘The Belt’.. He never saw it, but he knew it had hooks on it to tear the meat off his body. Thus runs the imagination of a 6 year old. (Circa 1968: To Russell My Brother Whom I Slept With.)

<< Yesterday, xwsmithx said: “I love Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts, but I find it a sad commentary on the state of comics today that those two are ranked #1 and #5 in readership on this site.” >>Hi xwsmithxOne current strip that ranks right up there with Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes would be Mutts, by Patrick McDonnell. Mutts is not on this site, but I would highly recommend it to the GoComics administrators as a future addition. Here is what Charles Schulz said about Patrick McDonnell and Mutts, in 1996:

“What’s the highest compliment I can pay Patrick McDonnell? He keeps coming up with ideas I wish I had thought of myself. A perfect example would be the strip where Earl [the dog] and Mooch, the cat, are looking at a flock of birds and Mooch says, ‘Hey, I know that guy.’“To me, Mutts is exactly what a comic strip should be. It is always fun to look at, and the two main characters are wonderfully innocent. Patrick has created a little world that exists within itself. Everyone in Mutts, from the little pet fish to the butcher behind his counter, is funny. Earl, of course, holds it all together and as always it is the way he is drawn that makes him so good. It’s hard to believe that after 100 years of comics, Patrick could come up with a new and perfect little dog. I like everything about Mutts.”— Charles M. Schulz, 1996

You’d think that Calvin would want Hobbes on his side, because nobody else is on his side.

Hobbes, I’ve been reading Mutts for a little over a year now (since I also signed up with The Daily Ink) I love that strip and a few few others I hadn’t seen or heard of before.

Since the only person who hears Hobbs is Calvin, did you ever wonder what Dad hears during thesefights?

Calvin shows that many people have their filters on for what they see and hear. That is why you never completely trust an ‘eye’ witness.

YESH!! Mutts is my very favorite strip and I save it for the very last read before I shut down. The Sunday strip always has amazing art work as the header, often based on very old out of print strips. Patrick is an extremely talented artist and I highly recommend his book MUTTS The Comic Art of Patrick McDonnell.

You don’t need a pillow, Calvin — you have a nice, big, soft stuffed tiger to rest your head on! (Until his stomach starts growling. That makes it hard to sleep…)

Is anyone else but me having trouble loading Gocomics? I get my morning email and when I open it, there is a message from the management saying to try later? Got here by trial and error, but it is a lot of trouble.

@Hobbes: I love “Mutts” also. It is always delightful. I also love “Mythtickle” (available on GoComics). The characters are charming (especiallly Boody, the last dragon, who is adorable), Justin’s art is wonderful, and the strip often has remarkable depth.
