When you are young like them, a place like that is great. You have a lot of dreams, a lot of energy to work (and a lack of money to do much). It’s when you start to have a family you want something more secure though. We lived in a dump when we first got married. Today I refuse to acknowledge that place anymore.
They’re young and strong. They may not have the money to turn it into Tara anytime soon, but if they can get the roof and windows secure enough to keep out the weather they’re off to a good start, and by the time they hit 30 it could be quite special.
I think it’s a good visual metaphor for a relationship. The left side (Arlo) is fear and uncertainty; the right side (no character) is beauty and contentment; the front (Janis) is guarded anticipation; Gene is the need for others’ approval; and the broken attic windows are the slings and dings that come from sharing your life with someone else.

The Haney place!

Well the roof needs work and the windows may be a pane….. Nice artwork….

I want to live someplace where two kids with restaurant jobs can afford a place like that, fixer-upper money pit or not.
Could never swing it here. A big old derelict farmhouse on a couple of acres would cost half a million bucks.

I ’m still wondering what Arlo meant yesterday when he said “ratatouille and linguini.”

What is really scarey is it looks like it is on piers, and open to boot. Do you have any idea what kind of zoo moves in under a house like that?
redkimba about 13 years ago
Just call in Billy the Exterminator to clear that out.

Nice 4-pane concept, Jimmy!
BRIPHILL about 13 years ago
could get something like that around here for under $50,000
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 13 years ago
Wow, where, Briphill?
I want to know where some of these places ARE.
And whether it costs $800 a month for enough heat to stay alive in the winter.
I don’t care about it being a dump to some people.
Maybe you’re right, Varnes, but winter is expensive there.
