I will never forget the overwhelming and emotional sense of patriotism and brotherhood, the flags everywhere, how even a glance between strangers was different than it had been the day before….may it never change….. and yes, thanks, Gary. Love ya.
December 7, 2011 will be the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Will there be comic dedications then? Will anybody remember? Just saying. And they don’t forget the first against America.
As to the comment regarding Pearl Harbor, I don’t think anyone could ever say that Americans have forgotten the sacrifices made on the terrible day in 1941. And yes, cartoonists do remember and pay tribute on major anniversaries, the last being the 50th, which I, and many of my fellow cartoonists commemorated (mine was in an editorial cartoon for the Richmond Times-Dispatch at the time). No doubt, the 75th anniversary will be the next major date that we will commemorate. And the late Charles Schulz spearheaded remembrances to the sacrifices our troops and allies made on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Likewise, September 11, 2001 will also be a day of remembrance and reflection.
