my Mom called me early in the morning, telling me to turn on CNN because a plane had just hit the World Trade Center. at the time, it was still thought to have been accidental. i got the tv turned on literally one minute before the second plane hit – and couldn’t stop watching until i absolutely had to in order to go to work that afternoon.

I was on my way to work when I was hearing about it. It was about 6:45 Edmonton time. I recall sitting at a stop light being totally stunned. Then when I got to the office, I got to see the news footage on CNN.

Let’s hope they stop those S.O.B’s before they do any damage today.

Since this is remembering where we were: I was making a pick-up at a medical supply company. The first plane had hit and we thought (a) it was a small plane and (b) probably, as unlikely as it was in clear weather, it was an accident. While I was there the second plane hit. We knew instantly then that it was no accident.

By 11:00 CDT, the only man-made things in the air were military. Anything else flying had feathers. It got real quiet where I was making the deliveries, near O’Hare Airport.

I was in a Bible College. We had finished breakfast, and one of the staff – who lived in the basement apartment – went to watch TV, while we did our chores. I was in the Lobby/Great Room, vacuuming Asian Beetles… and one of the female students ran up the stairs crying… we stopped our chores, and went to the classroom and started prayers. We spent most of the day in prayers.THOSE MEN, WOMEN, CHILDREN WHO DIED are true heros, and will not be forgotten. Freedom will not be forsaken because of radical religious movements.! WE WILL STAND UNITED IN NORTH AMERICA, EUROPE, AND THE COMMON WEALTH!!!

For some reason, I didn’t watch morning news that day as I had to finish organizing items to take to the Savannah College of Art & Design’s (SCAD) “Meet area organizations” for new students. The church where I worked was about 5 blocks away. This is a well-known school, and students come from everywhere. The lady who was going with me came in my office and told me about the first plane. We had to get to SCAD. We set up, and started passing out info. I noticed students were quiet, some were sobbing. We heard about the 2nd plane. The president of SCAD came out to the plaza we were on, got on a microphone, and announced what was happening. He had with him people who spoke English, Hebrew and Arabic- and they all offered prayers for those in new York, DC, and Pennsylvania, for their families, and for the students who were from those areas. I have never heard such silence punctuated by sobs. When the event was over, I went home and watched the coverage over and over.

I was at work and my co-workers wife called and told me what was going on. About that time the radip station stopped playing rock and switched to the news. Being a goverrnment office, we got a phone call from the higher ups sending us all home as no one knew for sure what was happening out there or what else might be coming.

Thank you, Thom for such a poignant reminder. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!.I was at work (human resources), and walked into a friend’s office, and she had the tv on and was crying. I thought it was some sort of show…..it took forever to have it all sink in!.That night, we sat out looking at the stars, and saw NO airplanes flying for the first time in our lives! Then we saw a large plane being escorted by a small military jet…..we felt that it was a special flight perhaps AirForce 1..I used to listen to “Beethoven.com” on my work computer, and those folks from Hartford Conn, spent lots of time bringing truck loads of bottled water to the Twin Tower sight. The most requested “song” they played on air was The Ave Maria. To this day, every time I hear it, it takes me back!

Remembering also the attacks on US Embassies, the USS Cole and all Americans. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001454.html

On 9.1.1 I was cleaning up from the construction crews morning coffee break and had the TV on. They were building an addition to my house. It was a very noisy site with one crew pouring a cement slab and another using large equipment to grade the land for run-off . Radios everywhere at top volume with CW or Latino music. Coastal SC has their fair share of good old boys who were ready to get in their trucks and head for NY. The more interesting reaction was from the illegals and their concerns about what this attack meant for them. Dave sent those guys home to be with their families.

Thank you, Thom, for reminding us to pause and THINK.

I was in my American History class, and the teacher said that he’d been told not to disturb the students with the news, but felt that he wouldn’t be doing his job if we didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t fully appreciate what was happening that day. Looking back, I’m glad I got to see this. I needed to grow up a bit.

Very nice tribute. I was at work, but live on the flight path for the local airport. Can remember thinking how sad to see/hear no planes for several days.
