Ah, what a way to see Brandon again. I cannot wait to see what’s next! (I wish the daily colorist would stick with the graytone flashback from Sunday’s strip. Continuity!)

Golly jeepers, Mr. Staton, Tracy looks like he’s barely more than a kid here, he’s so young (even still growing)! I hope Chief Brandon survives the assassin’s three bullets!

@Jim Doherty: (from yesterday)“Am I the only one who reads the other comments before posting?”No, I try to read them all, but I have wondered the same thing when I see a comment asking about something that has been explained in depth five or six comments earlier.Anyway ,thank you for taking the time to explain to us how this seemingly new history will fit in with what we already know about Tracy’s backstory. And, come to think of it, it would be logical that some of these characters would already be in the city, even if Tracy hadn’t run in to them yet, such as 88 Keys and Jinny working on their music in the club across the street.

Wow — you don’t see a character smoking on the comics page very often. Guess you can kiss that “Pink Lung” award goodbye, guys! :^)

This isn’t the 1931 Chet Gould version. The Chet Gould version had Dick Tracy joining the police force to solve the murder of the father of his girlfriend Tess Trueheart. The motivation to join was more personal and, thus, more effective in that version. I will always like that version better.

Howcum Macy is already on the force and just now meeting the Chief? Usually, the Chief is the first one to address the cadet class on their first day in the academy. Or, did he get a pass on the academy thingie?

Just catching up on several days’ strips and comments. I’m okay with the current teams’ respectful retelling of Tracy’s history (as Sam recalls it, remember?) and love seeing the old rogues and others. A great anniversary tribute with great art and great storytelling. Keep up the good work.

@platinumboy7: how is this different? This strip is not him joining the police force, but becoming a detective on that force. Different points in time.

I’ve been a Tracy fan for 40 years and don’t have a problem with the new team taking a little creative license with Tracy’s “origin.” They’ve brought so much new life to the strip that I’m not going to complain about something like this, or their creatively resurrecting a few dead rogues. .99.9% of readers don’t know or care about strip events that happened a lifetime ago but they are, I’m sure, happy and engaged when they see classic characters in the strip. .I have no doubt that the new team is growing the strips audience and that will lead to the strip surviving. Other classic strips have ended in recent years and I wouldn’t have been surprised if Tracy followed the way things had been going..And by the way, none of the Tracy creators of the past were always consistent with their strip history or facts..My two bits
