I’m afraid the five-and-dime stores are long gone.

Happy Thanksgiving to our U.S. friends! I’m thankful for everyone in the comics who makes me smile and laugh: artists and commenters alike! :-)

ohallford: Canada has a quite similar Thanksgiving in October (because of an earlier harvest) opposite Columbus/Invasion Day. Most tribes had a harvest festival. The first thanksgiving by Europeans in the western hemisphere was by the Frobisher expedition celebrating their survival of winter in the Canadian arctic.

A couple of years ago when my Grandson was 7 he asked his Dad if he could buy presents for people. My son said “I guess so if you keep it to $5 per gift”. You would have been surprised at how well he did, and found very appropriate gifts for everyone, even picking out correct colors, etc.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Things made by kids are really nice gifts. Michael ought to try that. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

5 & dime stores. remember the smell of popcorn as soon as you went into the store? and the awsome candy counters. anyway mike even just thinking about giving instead of getting is enough to put a lump in my throat. that is what Christmas is supposed to be all about.
