Around here, at least, the Salvation Army bellringers don’t bother to dress as Santa…which makes more sense, and saves a lot of trouble if you think about it.
At least around here, few of the bell ringers are actually members of the Salvation Army; most are volunteers recruited from local churches. So, no uniforms to wear. Fortunately, no Santa suits, either.
Wow, what a crab! Even if the boys aren’t going to give any money, you should still be kind to them. If I heard what a grump he was, I’d go far away and never give money.
In Ontario (and Canada) Salvation Army Ringers are SUPPOSED to wear a Red Vest. MOST of them are volunteers, although some citadels still pay their uniformed members to do the job!

Looks like “Miracle on 34th Street” re-aired just in time… The original, not the remake. Hope Mike gets to see it,

Reminds me of the volunteer Santa Claus in The Christmas Story. The one the kicked poor Ralphie down the slide.

I once saw a Salvation Army bell-ringer (in San Francisco) singing in time with his bell “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna….”.
