Danae’s plan will not work – top linguists have already done a research paper on the subject.

Coincidence indeed: Dr. Zamenhof did much the same, making the name of a previous constructed language, Volapük, the Esperanto word for nonsense/gobbledegook.

Piece of trivia. In 1965 “Incubus” was the first, and I believe still only, movie shot entirely in Esperanto. It starred William Shatner.

Thanks for knowing about Esperanto — but if millions of people have learned it and use it, can you really say “It didn’t catch on?” Maybe you should check it out! It really is a usable international language, and it’s really easy to learn.

On the Red Dwarf, they provide instructions in English and Esperanto. But no one knows how to speak either one.

Then we have that William Shatner movie with all dialogue in Esperanto. Producer Leslie Stevens thought it was a good idea…

Back in the Cold War days, a priest used to call a friend in Moscow, and they would chat in Latin as long as they could. Once a voice came on the line, and asked why they were speaking a language not used in a member-state of the UN. The priest responded that, as far as he knew, the Vatican was still a UN member.

It should be eaple-pay, above…BTW, kali, it does seem like the spinning of the world thrust all the vowels to the south Pacific, and all the consonants to eastern Europe….Although I’m told a lot of vowels did end up in Sweden….

If you are slightly good with languages and interested in having friends next month in Brazil, China, Cuba and Israel Esperanto is your choice. I have used it in travels to 34 countries (where I stayed or worked for some 18 years). Try my blog at EsperantoFriends.blogspot for a diverse taste with English clarification.

Don’t give Danae any ideas. She already has The Church of Danae going on (and frankly, I’d like to join if I wasn’t everything she distrusts, i.e., a white male) – she doesn’t need a better name for it…

Besides Danaenetics sounds a lot better than that other thing — what’s it called, oh yea, Dying-ethics.

    :-)

“Meanwhile the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different cultures and races, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.” Take that, Zamenhof!

My own suggestion for a universal language can be found on YouTube at /watch?v=_JmA2ClUvUY . It is simple, direct, and clearly it is possible to disagree without rancor.
