I had a cousin who would run in slow motion with the ball. My sister and I together couldn’t stop him, only occasionally snatching the ball from his arm.
Other kids’ games are all such a bore! They’ve gotta have rules and they gotta keep score!Calvinball is better by far! It’s never the same! It’s always bizarre! You don’t need a team or a referee! You know that it’s great, ‘cause it’s named after me!
Hobbes (the poster): Thanks for the “Peanuts” explanation on yesterday’s forum . . . but I’m still wondering about the name. Charles Schulz didn’t choose it — even hated it — but someone had to come up with it and I’m just wondering how. (Personally, I love the name but then “Peanuts” is what I grew up on since it was “born” before I was.) Any more thoughts? Thanks!
@Gretchen’sMom,What’s this? Are you ’Kline’ing off my bandwagon? Is it by design, or ’clothes’ion? Did I ‘wear’ out my welcome? Will you be ‘ragging’ on me soon? ‘Wear’ will it end?
Hi GretchensMom and Number 6The origin of the name “Peanuts” is an interesting story. I’ll write something on it tomorrow morning, since others on this site may be interested in it also.

Now set the ball down and spike Calvin, followed by your victory dance.
mikemuk almost 13 years ago
I thought Calvin would be a bit quicker off the mark , he should have said “My ball , my rules , no touchdown” .Or does the ball belong to Hobbes ?

I could have envisioned a similar result with Moe, but a stuffed tiger? This is definitely not your game, Calvin.

Yesterday, it was lacrosse with Suzie, today it is football with Hobbes, Calvin needs to find new games to lose at.

If Calvin were fishing, he would have (made) the ‘tackle’!Hobbes must be made of ‘the right stuff’!
Puddleglum2 almost 13 years ago
Hobbes made ‘six points’, but Calvin probably won’t learn any of them!
GalleyOar almost 13 years ago
This calls for a round of “Calvin Ball” where the rules are fluid and Calvin always wins.

@Dogsniff: Hahahahah! Very, VERY good – wish Lewreader would jump back into the mix; great comments there, too.

When it comes to a game like football, and it’s Calvin against Hobbes . . . it’s good to be tall! ;-)

Gee Hobbes, didn’t that tickle? I would have dropped the ball with a kid squirming around like that.
Phosphoros almost 13 years ago
Hobbes scored without even throwing the ball, running or touching it down. Now that’s the kind of football I can play and win with!
fmasroor almost 13 years ago
Hobbes: Off the charts. Calvin: Off the charts. Relatively.
