Last night, GretchensMom and Number 6 asked how the Peanuts comic strip got its name. It’s a very interesting story, and I’ve posted a summary over at the Peanuts site here on GoComics, followed by some of my personal thoughts on the subject.
I love it when Calvin seems more like a normal little boy. Often he acts like a rebellious teenager or talks like a little old man, which is also part of his appeal.
No, I didn’t think so at all. I know you wanted to know where it came from. I simply tried to answer that question. If I offended you, I apologize. I don’t consider my rights any more important than anyone else.
The reason I mentioned I understand why there is so much Peanut talk in a C & H forum is because there is one poster who thinks we all want to know what happened that was similar to the C & H strip for the day. That is where my comment was directed. Again, I’m sorry if I offended you. Nothing I said was directed your way, other than answering your question.
@rogue53Frankly, I find it very interesting when people here post what was similar from other strips. That’s why I visit this site. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to read the comments.
Freedom of speech does not include the freedom to attack someone like dejongbr in a nasty, derogatory manner. Everyone here is free to state their own opinion on anything provided that it is civil.Hi dejongbr. Thanks for your comment. Many people have mentioned that they enjoy the sharing of additional strips.
@rogue53: This site is run by GoComics and you do not have the freedom to say whatever you wish about anyone here. We all have to follow their rules. They own the site. Their rules state that you can not write the kind of posting that you just wrote to attack me, calling me an arrogant fool. You cannot use “Freedom of Speech” under the U.S. Constitution to get around that, as you have been trying to do. And this site is not a democracy. But the posters on this site do not have to follow your arbitrary rules regarding whether or not we are allowed to mention Peanuts on this site, whether or not we are allowed to post other strips on this site, whether or not we are allowed to discuss psychology, whether or not all postings have to be short, and so on.And when someone posts something that you feel violates one of your arbitrary rules, you do not have the right to verbally attack that person, as you have attacked three of us today, both here and at Peanuts. You have attacked me, dejongbr, and GretchensMom today.
@rogue53: Dissent and differences of opinion are fine and even welcomed, provided that they are civil. Yours are not welcomed by me or by most people on this site, because they are in the form of nasty verbal attacks. They are also highly repetitive – we have heard you say all of it many times before.A word of advice: nasty verbal attacks only serve to expose the attacker to his core and make him transparent to everyone else. It’s like the bird who was yelling at Snoopy in yesterday’s Peanuts strip. Snoopy wasn’t affected by it, but the bird fell on his head. You seem like someone who has a lot of difficulty adjusting to change. But sometimes change happens over which you have no control, and this is one of those times. Repeatedly shooting yourself in the foot over it , by repeatedly attacking others, won’t make it better for you; it will only make it worse. And it won’t change the rest of us. We are very familiar with your attacks by now, and we will just go on about our business, enjoying each other’s company and doing things for each other that we all enjoy, whether it irritates you or not. It is not possible to please everyone. There are a lot of wonderful people on this site, and they would be happy to welcome you as a friend, if not for your constant verbal attacks. That includes me, as I have told you in the past. It’s your choice.
@rogue53: The honest responses that I gave to your questions and accusations many months ago were not accepted by you and were attacked instead. It is clear that you are only trying to start an argument.
@Sharuniboy: No, I’m not a “man of the cloth,” but I am a religious person. Some will appreciate the fact that I have mentioned this, but others will find it threatening. This is not a new development in the history of humankind. :>)
@rogue53: One only has to read the comments to observe the very large number of people who write very kind things to me and to each other, and to observe that you are the only major antagonist on Calvin and Hobbes. You seem to have difficulty recognizing people’s personalities through their comments, and you definitely have difficulty recognizing how inappropriate your own comments sound to others. While your language toward me has been the most extreme, you have attacked quite a few people on this site during the past year, including the three I mentioned this week. Many people have responded negatively to your attacks on me and on them, so I am clearly not the only one who considers them to be attacks.

I racked out under the bed. why let the monsters get the best of everything.
rogue53 about 13 years ago
The truth is scary. That’s why most don’t really want to hear it, including Calvin.
Troglodyte about 13 years ago
Look at the “bright” side – at least the monsters are responsive, if not totally truthful!
GROG Premium Member about 13 years ago
Perhaps the monsters want to get some shut-eye, Calvin.
Knightman Premium Member about 13 years ago
Calvin is getting a Boo-ster from Hobbes.

@LX013,…or call Mommy! Add a y or remove an m! :o)

“…How big would they be?”…bigger than a breadbox! …the size of a stuffed tiger, maybe!
Puddleglum2 about 13 years ago
Are “very small” monsters more scary than humongous ones?
Puddleglum2 about 13 years ago
It sounds like a triple entente under the bed. Calvin needs both Mom and Dad to even the numbers.

@GretchensMom and bmonk,Please see my comments near the end of yesterday’s posts!

@Dogsniff – amen! Is it just me or has the site been much slower since the merger with comics.com?
Plods with ...™ about 13 years ago
I don’t see a problem. The dust bunnies are just reassuring Calvin. Mine do that all the time.

Oops, guess I should read all the comments before responding. However, 2 great minds :-D

I wonder how many of these strips showed Calvin without Hobbes. The galoshes strip comes to mind.
Phosphoros about 13 years ago
I would get him one garlic clove to put in a shoe box down there to ward them off for good. The placebo effect would go a long way, I reckon.

If Calvin watched Monsters Inc he would realize they are more afraid of him than what he is of them
