ORIGINAL HOW CRUTCH DIEDAlso, once again, for those Tracy fans who want to compare the original to the current I am providing these links I found. I am NOT the originator of these reproductions, so don’t blame me for the quality:The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 1The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 2The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 3The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 4The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 5The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 6The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 7The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 8
So, Crutch got what he had coming, off-camera (I suppose the PC police at TMS required it to be so), Tess immediately recognized Dick’s voice (and criticized his disguise-hair), and Ace was apprehended by Pat. A good day’s work, as Sam tells it….
I hate to be sacrilegious. But, I think I like “Sam’s” version better than the original.Not that I don’t love the original.I’m just really enjoying Mike’s (or should I say Sam’s) tweaks.It is a very close race, however..COMPLETELY IMO!
Too bad TMS won’t allow actual death scenes shown. I remember how Gould would show Tracy drilling a villian through the head with a little hole in the forehead and the bullet shown behind his head.
IMO todays strip is masterfully done! Each panel is well designed and drawn and the inking and coloring is perfect … AND Mr. Curtis’ writing is, as usual, the best. Add to that the well done “hall of creators” and … well what can I say? It’s great!!
Ironically, “Ace” in panel # 5 looks a great deal like the early Dick Tracy in the story that Tarry Plaguer has posted for us to see. The famous nose profile did not come into being for several years, sort of gradually. When I first glanced at today’s strip, I thought that was supposed to be Tracy, until I remembered that he is in disguise. Anyway, great story. Bet Big Boy will be plenty sore now.
there were death scenes in the morning gloria episode…dick’s expression in the last panel is great — love the humor instilled in an otherwise deadly situation.

Um, I’d be greatful to be rescued, not worrying about my BF’s hair.

I had to stop for a minute to think of what was going on before this “Flashback” LOL!!!!
Great re-telling of Dick’s first undercover job.
Now back to Patton this week, I guess.

How were they going to set off those explosives without blowing themselves up? These guys are not the suicide bomber type.

Yes—but didn’t you all notice along with Tess, that Tracy had a bad hair day?

@morgueritem:
I thought the same thing, but that was sort of “typical Tess” in the early days of the original strip.
