Until I read the blurb, I thought Winslow was a cat.
“Top dog in this wolf pack” is a mixed metaphor, and he was called a cat by whoever threw the Birkenstock. Nach.
I think the off-stage voice calling Winslow a “mangy cat” is meant to describe the inability of the general public to discern the facts even when the facts are directly in front of them.
