Businesses exist to profit their owners. How could anyone assume that workers will be treated fairly when greed is the fundamental principle in operation? If I work for a company at $15.00 per hour, you can bet my labor is worth at least 8 times that to the employer. Buckminster Fuller’s “World Game” promotes the concept of making the world work, "for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.” There are a few ethical businesses out there who operate on a different foundation, but sadly they are few and far between. From where I sit, Arlecchino represents 90% of American companies.

Old Wolf: Of COURSE a worker must be worth more to an employer than he is paid. If it were the other way around, there’d be no businesses to hire anyone. As for Bucky Fuller’s pipe dream, wouldn’t it be nice if all my wishes came magically true? Unicorns and fairy dust.
Ghostkeeper: There is so much wrong in what you say I’ll just address one item: The idea that the USSR was NOT socialist or communist is ludicrous. Besides the silly notion of an atheist theocracy, the fact that Communism IS a dogma doesn’t make it religious and DOESN’T make the USSR non-Communist or non-socialist. That’s just another variant of the claim that Communism is good in principle but has failed in practice (so let’s try to do it better the next time!).
Once upon a time, the president of Toyota was paid a certain multiple of the lowest paid employee. For him to get a raise, a lot of people had to get raises. This is the only case of “a rising tide lifts all boats” that I’ve heard of being effective.
