Why “math” and not “maths”. After all, it is short for “mathematics”, not “mathematic”.

Why not matics? Shortening tends to be arbitrary anyway.
Misspelled brand names are done in part because the trademarks are easier to defend if it wasn’t a spelling already in use.

“Hair apparent” is that thing beloved of people naming hairdressing salons, a pun, rather than a misspelling as such.

I never understood the “British way” of spelling things.
“Towne?” Why do we need an extra “e?”
“Centre?” It’s “SEN-tur,” not “SAN-truh.”
And don’t get me started on “-or” words being spelt “-our.”
