Lightened the load just in time. Since the airscout was only designed to lift itself, it’s impressive that it had enough surplus lift to carry all that extra load.
Good-Bye Rocket Payload (to this tune) Where are you gonna come down Where are you going to land I should have stayed in Endtown Should have listened to Holly’s plan You know you can’t hold on forever I didn’t have room for you I’m not a braincase for your boss to open This cat’s too young to be singing the blues [chorus] So goodbye rocket payload Where the mutts of Topsiders prowl You can’t snag me in your cables I’m going back to my town Back to my Holly and hole-in-the-ground Hunting the safer back road Oh I’ve finally decided my future lies Beyond the rocket payload Where do you think you’re landing? I bet this’ll shoot out your brain It’ll take you a couple of Topsider experts To set you on your feet again Unfortunately there’s replacements But they’ll wind of just where your bound Mutt-bots who ain’t got a conscience Scattered in bits just like you on the ground [chorus] =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum

Level_Head: thanks for the ttto. I guessed the tune, then saw the reference. Again, thanks for the reference. Interesting how the tail bushes a bit in flight. Was this a normal tail bush situation, covered in wind? Also I am not sure what is holding up that air vehicle, it does seem that it is not reactionless, it needs something to push against, and thus the dirt plume.
I don’t know what holds it aloft That plume isn’t “cushion of air” But now there’s a landing quite soft Much better than Mutts would prepare! There are no fans or vent-holes below No blades, jets, or rocket exhaust Externally, nothing does show But there must be an energy cost I think that a force-field’s implied Reactionless motor? Perhaps. At least our hero-pair hasn’t died And we aren’t here now playing “Taps” We see in that last Panel 4 A blast of the wasteland-dust-stuff But I’ve seen such dust-ups before Just high speed through the air is enough Look at Wally with ears streaming back And the swoop of their dive from the sky Wally’s fierce-looking, poised to attack Any Mutt he encounters will die While the airscout was falling from weight (As it had been with Al and Gustine) Fearsome Wally unloaded that freight And the artwork is once again keen! =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum
I’VE JUST SEEN A FACE – ENDTOWN VERSION (To the tune of “I’ve Just Seen a Face” by Lennon/McCartney, the Beatles)I’ve just seen a face, I can’t forgetThe shining casing and the metal skinWith happy eyes and grinBefore I vaporised its brain.La la la la-la laThen there came another and anotherAnd I think that was his brotherAnd the other was his motherAnd we’re shooting every one.La la la la-la laFalling. And they are falling. And they keep calling for more to come.As my cat held back th’attacking horde,I left his pack and got on boardThe sitting rocket ship to doA little chippy switcheroo.Doo doo doo doo-doo dooIn the nook that’s labeled MGCI took Chip 20 and could seeIt’s plenty frightening outsideWith Wally lightening our ride.Die die die die-die dieFalling. And they are falling. And it’s appalling, the casualty.(Instrumental)Falling. And they are falling. And they keep calling for more to come. Then we leapt aboard the scout and fledThe mad, marauding horde. I saidTo Wally: “Hold on tight”,And he said: “Holly, we’ll be quite alright.”La la la la-la la.Falling. Yes we are falling. And they keep calling for more to come.Falling. And they are falling. And they keep calling for more to come.Falling. And they are falling. And now they’re stalling, and we can run.
Tails. The Mutt’s legs remind me of rat tails.Wally’s is one big feather duster – maybe it adds to the drag to slow down the airscout’s fall.Holly’s is not to be seen.
I don’t know what’s more strange about this world. A oracle that uses a 1950’s tv test pattern between messages or the face someone designed and manufactored scuba gear for a earthworm! Think aboud dit!
Pretty sure Wally’s got Flask beat by a mile on the mutt count for this mission! Gotta love all the “mutt droppings” littering the launch pad in the first frame.
I would not have thought it possible to experience vertigo from a 2-dimensional comic strip, but that first panel seriously caught me off guard with a rush of dizziness. This just adds to my appreciation of the astounding art associated with Endtown, and why I always view the strip twice. Today is another great example of how Aaron can create so much tension with no words, no sound effects, no typical comic-related clutter. Endtown as a comic is just so … ENTERTAINING!And Jenner and Level_Head – Keep it up!

Cats always land on their feet (well, mostly), luckily for Wally and Holly!

All things considered, I think it’s just possible that Wally ended up with the “hard part”. Flask had a literal walk in the park.

Are the flyers designed to reflect their PTs’ expressions? This one looks pretty determined, like an angry manta.
castingfool almost 13 years ago
My guess is that Wally and Holly were just a diversion for Flask to do whatever she’s got planned. It would be just like Flask to not tell them.

I asked Aaron about this. He said that the airscouts are controlled purely by the PT. That is, no brains inserted.

I do love how Wally’s tail has “brushed up” – as you’d expect a fighting cat’s to do. :)
