Do any of you have kids in public school right now? Because my first grader does plenty of reading and comprehension exercises, and they are adding and subtracting lists of numbers and two and three digit numbers. And they still have time for social exercises that promote cooperation and tolerance.
Kara, people who believe this are conservatives! Don’t confuse them with sensitivity, don’t confuse them with the studies that have proven over and over that labels matter… and especially, above all else… don’t confuse them with facts. ;)
Wyntre, I sorry but the cartoon hit the nail right on the head. Our schools are so afraid of lawsuits and being political correct that they can no longer maintain order in the classroom or teach the basics. It has nothing to do with being Left or Right, and if you don’t believe it talk to teachers from public schools. They are a strong democrat base and they would love to go back to the 50s and early 60s when teachers could actually teach.
My mother is a public high school teacher, Joe. A swing and a miss! Want to try again?
No, the schools are not so afraid of lawsuits that kids can’t use those kinds of slurs. In fact, they say a lot of that and way, way, WAY worse. To the teachers’ faces… and the teachers can’t do a thing about it.
You want to complain about public schools? There’s a LOT to complain about, starting with how teachers are treated… but this problem ain’t real.
This actually happened to my son when he was in high school. He was suspended for 3 days, forced to take an in-school suspension and get 3 days worth of “sensitivity” training. He graduated high school without the capability of composing a complete sentence, can’t do basic arithmetic. His sister (whose IQ is 2 points LOWER than his) is now completing her Masters degree with a 4.0 GPA. It is our generation who did this to our kids. “Peace, love and understanding” is fine as an ideal, but reality is that the world is a hard, tough place, and the sooner the kids learn it the better.
Wyntre, you interpeted me wrong, I was not saying the teachers are the problem, the problem is the rules they have to live with today. Our group of friends are all teachers or retired teachers, and our biggest complaint is that you can’t keep order in the classroom due to the lack of discipline in the school system and modern families.

Again, this story arc has been far removed from the realm of reality.
