It seems obvious to me (from previous strips) that Elly likes cooking. Perhaps she asked for the food processor..One of my wife’s favorite Christmas gifts is the high-end mixer I gave her many years ago. Of course, she specified exactly what she wanted, down to make, model, and accessories….PS: Check the spelling of the husband’s name: it’s “John,” with an H.
When and if I ever marry, I hope I marry a practical, low-maintenance woman who appreciates me buying her gifts that make her life easier, rather than gifts that allow her to walk around like a peacock in front of everyone at church.
I am not married, but do work in the kitchen and garden. Should I receive a gift that made my life easier I would be thrilled. Let him get her bedroom apparel for their anniversary. He should have her size by that time. What she would like would depend on her not someone else.
I’m a GUY and I wanna B-slap John! If I was there, I’d “Dinozo” him ala Leroy Jethro Gibbs! My Mom asked for a new mixer for Xmas one year, so Dad got her one…….PLUS the perfume and some jewelry and a very pretty blouse.
I much prefer practical gifts to jewelry and lingerie (I have a few pieces we got from BIL’s pawn shop cheap, and that’s plenty).
BUT I don’t want gifts for my job, I want them for hobbies or daily life. If he got me a vacuum, for instance, should I get him a glare filter, ballpoint pens or lumbar support pillow for him to use at HIS work? OTOH, get me a really great travel mug, camera or pair of great socks that fit (fit makes buying most clothes all but impossible), or a book I’ve been looking for and can’t bring myself to buy- that would be great and would mean he actually knew me and what I need or want.
If Elly hinted — or even flat-out requested — a food processor, then he’s golden. If she didn’t, then he’s dead in the water and sleeping on the couch for a week!
I still treasure the Kitchen Aide stand mixer my BF bought me way back (when red was first an option), just because he knew I love red accents around the house. I would love a larger food processor in red now that I do more heavy duty cooking again. Men generally pick frilly things that are uncomfortable because trimmed with nylon lace or lurex- I love even at my age to wear lovely pieces, but only in soft silk. One of my sons just sent me a replacement for my worn silk comforter (because I emailed him a link).

He failed to mention the “marital-aid” setting on the processor.

My ex got me a vacuum……for Valentines Day. I love practical gifts, when I ask for them. But Valentines Day?

for years my husband has bought me neat gadgets for the kitchen. I love to cook, so that’s like getting toys!

Now many top notch things come in many decorator colors, but mine are all in red!
