At my recent annual urinalysis, I found it more appropriate to quote Omar Kayam, i.e. “Fill the cup that clears today of past regrets and future fears”. It must work, since I got a good report. . Omar, though, was writing about wine.

I do not like those “stick” tests. In ‘91 I had back to back (within minutes) false positives, which were cleared up by a real urinalysis an hour later. Then, in about ’01, I had a false negative. (Okay, I’ll take that one).

For some reason only the wind knows, today’s count started at one when there were none (unless somebody posted something so offensive that the servers themselves flagged it before it could be seen). Not to worry.

I hate parties, I’m very lousy at small talk.

Get a grip, John! It’s one evening and I’m sure there will be alcohol. After a few drinks, you’ll be having too much fun to notice!

How civilized of you, John. ;-)12 isn’t a bad number. It’s larger parties that I don’t love. Usually parties of 12 break off into smaller groups anyway. And it’s enough people where you can rotate around in case you end up with someone that you don’t mesh with.

Hubby and I do not go to parties. Just quiet time at home. We will start the New year right after I turn older, at church. Have to wait for Monday for New Years Day parade.

It’s guys like John who end up having a terrific time at these parties. :-)

I’m like John too (both socially anxious and introverted, for those who understand the terms). And I married into a huge family, that lives so far away that I don’t know them well. After a couple hours in a gathering of 45 people in 1800 sq ft, I just start randomly wandering, eyes glazed, and if I can’t get away, randomly crying.

If I know some of the people really well or feel that at least one of them really likes me, and there is space to be alone by the cheese dip and maybe a pack of cards, I can do 4-5 hours easy. I’d invite 12 people to my house and set up 3 game tables and it would be fine. But standing around doing small talk? No.

But I’m boring, or so I’ve been told.

we always have the extended family over for New Years Eve. Lucky we have fun families – normally about 24-25 of them (and I don’t live in a huge house either) :D
