During the holidays, I used to pick up some extra money by working for a company that delivered lost luggage. You arrive, your luggage doesn’t. You go on your way, and I bring your luggage to you whenever it finally does arrive. You would not believe how much luggage gets lost at a small airport that only serves a few (Delta) commuter connecting flights per day. My girlfriend and I once put 500 miles on a little Ford Festiva in one 24hr period.

… and as soon as you pay our luggage-finding fee of … um … $1000.

Overheard in the baggage loading area, “Let’s send this one to Mongolia, ha ha!. And this matching one to France.”

The rates make no sense. Our pastor (in Dallas) attended a conference in Chicago. It was cheaper to return by way of a couple day’s layover in Paris! Fortunately, she had a daughter in Le Mans and so didn’t even have the layover costs – plus the son-in-law was chef at a three and a half-star restaurant there.
