I bought some Fig Newtons a few weeks ago, and the bag wasn’t resealable.

Hmmmm…. so just how old were they?

Actually I have a friend who likes those flat, chocolate-covered marshmallow Santas better when they’re stale.

Years ago they sold them from open boxes on the counter so they were often hard and chewy by Christmas.

The modern sealed plastic wrappers have ruined them for her. Takes two years to age them properly.

    I am NOT kidding.

Richard — sounds like fun.Bet there was some great stuff left behind! :)

Not that you’ll see this comment either, probably, but I posted to you one day after you mentioned Madison that I went to HS there.

Cokiefan, you beat me to it, but according to my wife who adores stale Peeps, they no longer get stale. Maybe she’s just not waiting long enough.

I’ve had some old C ration peanut butter that was partially crystallized. Best peanut butter I’ve ever eaten.

Stale peeps, nothing like them :)

Even if you have to wait a year for them to get that way.

She might like the Fig Newtons featured on yesterday’s “Monty.” Aged on the floor of the boys’ washroom!

I dumpster-dived some discarded Civil Defense food once, when it was finally discarded in the 1990s.The hard candies were fine, but had no flavoring other than sugar. Maybe they were made with ascorbic acid that decayed, dunno. The crackers were inedible, but made good duck feed.

Did you know Peeps are translucent? I saw a demonstration on combustion where the demonstrator impaled a Peep on a sparkler and lit it; when it reached the inside you could see the glow through the exterior!
