Petey: My mom let us stay up late last night to decorate our Christmas tree. The last ornament we put on it was a star Alice made in preschool. It's huge. It made out of cardboard. And it's got pieces of pasta glued all over it. Thousands of them. But the pasta is gradually coming unglued. So all night long I heard bits of pasta hitting the living room floor and bouncing around. Andre: Noodles falling from trees! It's a dream come true!

Andre is happy with anything as long as it’s LOUD.

Imagine a young Tim Burton/David Lynch – that’s Andre.

That star is just Andre’s size! Falling pasta is a bonus, though I think Andre would prefer it to be cooked, unlike Dill, who’d eat it as-is….

Some day Andre will be a famous movie director. Alice will be his actress wife (okay, she’ll be a stunt double for a star). They will work with Petey on his first movie, “The Adventure of Little Neuro and the the falling pasta tree.” It will feature a hero filled with ennui, plus lots of exploding pasta. I smell Oscar.

Many years ago, I rolled some rice in different shades of food dye and let my daughter glue the rice onto a drawing with Elmer’s glue. We put the drawing on the old oil heater in the hall to dry. (It was summertime.) During the night I heard a “click, click” like Venetian blinds being blown by the breeze and hitting a window. The sound was coming from the heater. I turned on the light and found a huge cockroach on the picture, happily crunching on the rice.

All hail the reign of pasta rain.

We use (raw) elbow macaroni in a population biology simulation in first-year Biology. Students have to be restrained from treating it as snack food even though the pasta is years old, well handled and eating it will ruin the experiment!

Of course, that star was made with pounds and pounds of glitter.

I love Andre’s clasped mittened hands in the last panel. It shows how very delighted he is!
