Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for December 28, 2011
December 27, 2011
December 29, 2011
Transcript:
Janis: OK - where is Meg's father now?
Mary Lou: I don't know!
Mary Lou: I know where everyone thought he'd wind up, if he didn't get killed first!
Janis: Oh, dear...
Mary Lou: Harvard Law School!
I donât remember the strips from â94 that were linked to yesterday and today and I understand that Mary Lou had appeared in a few strips before that but the first time I recall her appearing in the strip was when she already months into her pregnancy. Gene stuck by her at the time, arguing with Arlo at one point and I remember Janis musing as they were leaving about going back to the shore the next year so sheâd see how mother and baby are doing.
Itâs good that things have gone so well for Mary Lou and Megan but Iâm still not liking Janis poking at the sensitive subject in the middle of a holiday visit.
isnât it kindda late to be asking these questions? Janis should have brought this up with her son before now since heâs the one involved with this girl. i figured Gene would want to adopt Meg if he and Mary Lou got married. if the bio dad isnât listed on the birth certificate donât think heâd have any rights plus doesnât mention he ever paid support. anyone know if Meg has Mary Louâs last name? i assume so. Meg only talks about Gene as her Dad so he is the only one she knows. and Gene has deep feeling for her in return. be interesting to see where this goes. maybe Mary Lou and Megâs dad will re connect and run off leaving Meg with Gene and Gus!
A potentially rich man is around her for more than a minute and all she remembers is that he is tall?! She had to be raped in the dark. With one exception, I donât like lawyers either, especially corporate lawyers.
Could have been a date rape pill. But this is all getting way too bleak for the comments.Let JJ play out the story, Iâm sure itâs going to be worth it.
I remember when Gene first met her at the beach when he was a little kid. They were on vacation and stayed in/near her Dadâs placeâŠher Mom was always drunk. Sometime later, she called him..they talkedâŠGene asked her what she got for ChristmasâŠshe said just stuff she neededâŠmakeupâŠbrasâŠ.Gene went into meltdownâŠ.
I was sort of surprised by MLâs comment that she didnât know much about the father! As I recall, she said right away that he âwasnât in the pictureâ but I felt that he just was irresponsible â not that he was someone she didnât even know! Now I see a foreshadowing of a return alsoâŠ

And to think, Janis, back in â94, referred to Mary Lou as âThat little hussyâŠâ1

I wonder if this foreshadows the âreturn of the baby daddyâ ?That would create some tension in the plans of Gene and Mary Lou.

The father at Harvard. Hmmm. It reminds me of the novel I recently read; Class Reunion by Rona Jaffe.
