To mom- a nice china lamp would be ‘Nice Stuff’, and she would value it. For Eddie- a nice Nerf lamp would be ‘Nice Stuff’ and he would value IT. Everything’s relative (get it?) here at The Buckets. Also, if you have a facebook account, slip on over there to the right hand side of the page and ‘Like’ the Buckets, willya? We’re forming The Buckets Brigade, and we’ll eventually take over the world, but for now, we’re just hangin’ out.
We have some really nice eighty year old etched glass lamp covers on two original fixtures in our house. The kids have smashed two (once with a toy lightsaber, and once with a thrown pillow) Those are getting harder and harder to find on eBay.
As Capt. Francesco Schettino famously said, “Oops. Stupid breakable ship. How come they don’t let me captain a NICE boat?” (Ok, he didn’t say that. But a captain that jumps ship immediately after crashing it into an island … well, it’s easy to imagine him saying that.)
I gave up on having nice stuff in 1992. Last year I bought my first new piece of furniture in almost 20 years. It may have still been too soon. Not 1 week into owning my beautiful new dining room table (get this! With 6 matching chairs…..I Know!) one of my darling boys spilled something corrosive on it. I have a lovely quarter sized “light patch” on the table. Now, place mats cover it or my blood pressure shoots up 20+ points if I see it.
Mom had a lot of painted glass Christmas ornaments. You know the kind, the German spun glass stuff. I think I destroyed, quite by accident of course, most of the ornaments before I turned 7. .New store at a Christmas market last year. Most of their stuff was from Germany. I finally managed to replace most of what went missing so many years ago.

Hide the ball and blame the dog. When things get broken in my house somehow it’s the dogs fault.
