I don’t drink coffee, tea, milk, alcohol or pop… The question I get asked most is “Are you Mormon?” No. I guess Mormons don’t drink coffee? Good for them, coffee is a drug to too many people… No, none of that stuff tastes good to me. Just the smell of something like Blue Cheese dressing or cottage cheese (made from milk) will make me throw up, as in puke. That stuff smells rotten, bet it tastes like it too.Yet millions of people can’t seem to live without such a thing as coffee.I really got looked at funny in the 60’s and 70’s when I was at restaurant’s and asked for water instead. Back then, very, very few people drank water. It is better now, the waiter/waitresses don’t look at you wondering WHY you don’t want coffee.I enjoy water just fine, and usually drink 16 cups (1 gallon) or more a day.
Me also, I don’t get today’s strip either. Must be only coffee drinkers can understand it. LOL
my first pot in the morning is for the caffeine. after that, when i am awake, i drink decaff gourmet (if i can afford it that month). watter process decaff has all the antioxidants and compounds that help with diabetes, with out chemicals. yes coffee has a stimulant in it. no its not necessarily bad for you. it depends on the _ indivigal _. if you don’t have a problem with stress or a stomach acid problem coffee/caffeine is ok. and far less of a problem for me than alcohol, nicotine, ect, was for me. as a “drug of choice” its pretty benign
Arlo generally has something to say that he finds informative, whether it is or isn’t. I think the gourmet flavors fed his intellectual taste (as it were). Janis giving him the plain stuff stifles his early morning diatribe, giving her some relief from the blarney.
Pet peeve time here. Why do restaurants charge you the same for some hot water and a couple of tea bags as they do for endless refills of coffee, which is more expensive for them to buy?
Staff would look at you strangely because any drink except tap water has a much higher mark-up than the food. They stopped countering water because of the consumers’ movement of the 1960s – they could have been picketed. I drink milk with most meals. I don’t in restaurants because I refuse to pay for a half gallon and get only a half pint. Many places don’t even have it on the menu as it contains neither caffeine nor alcohol which encourages addicts to buy those drinks regardless of mark-up.
Tap water is becoming unsafe as fracking gives more people inflammable water, and arsenic if it won’t ignite.
Recipe: Zap water in your favorite cup, (you know, the one from that quick get away with your lover that no one is supposed to know about..) add half of spoonful of Tasters Choice, sugar and cream, drink 2 of them and go to work…or stay home, I don’t care

As a confirmed coffee hater, I fail to understand this.

It allows you to start the day without all the cosmic adventures of a coffee commercial.

After yesterday, I don’t want everybody to think I’m applying for “Official Arlo and Janis Explainer”….
And this might be wrong….
But I’m thinking that Janis recently switched from buying expensive coffee store beans to supermarket canned ground coffee.
Now she’s congratulating herself for being correct in her hunch:
Arlo, in his morning state, doesn’t even notice the difference.

I don’t get it either but I am not going to launch into a column of all my likes and dislikes.

Arlo has the same look on his face, “Ah nector of the gods” as if it were high dollar brew.

I like coffee, but I don’t get it either.

Ken Chevy, I hope you’re drinking filtered water. The stuff that comes straight out of the tap is not good for you either.
DDrazen almost 13 years ago
Gourmet coffee to Arlo is as Perrier in Luddie’s water bowl.

Tap water is not good for you? US tap water is highly safe, it equals some of the bottled water that is sold.

Water? You know what fishes do in that stuff?

Coffee might work against type 2 diabetes and altimers. Don’t know if my instant or decaf works.

My take is that Arlo, in his semi-awake state, wouldn’t notice the difference between gourmet coffee and the cheap stuff.

Arlo is hardly a gourmet type of guy….. he’s simply the common everyday type most of us can identify with.

Susansunshine, you got it.Too often everyone over analyses. It’s a comic strip, not hard to understand!

Maybe in the morning Arlo like myself is so half-awake that the taste, and expense is wasted on him. What you want is caffiene.

I’ve been confused by many a A&J strip, but this one was obvious to me. In his morning state, Arlo could care less.

The stuff you buy in bottles is generally tap water from another city. Sucker!
