Well, he may have thought it up while he was in the tub…

But you can have so much fun in the tub! Hot water, suds, a sponge, the occasional Rubber Ducky…you can do a LOT!

Knowing Teddy, he probably thought it up while fighting a bear on a mountaintop made of angry bees.

It’s what I have always referred to as “the make do crew”. Ingenuity comes from necessity. Thinking of a way beats complaining every time.

I think that’s called making necessity a virtue.

@rogue53,“Ingenuity comes from necessity”. A Rocky and Bullwinkle alternative title could be “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

I always liked that quote. In other words, make the best of what you got and quit feeling sorry for yourself.

The complete quote was (or should have been):“Do what you can with what you have where you are, just don’t doo in the bath tub!”

I think mom will want to throw Calvin out with the bathwater when she finds out “he did what he did with what he had and where right where he was” : )

Suds: the final frontier. Calvin’s 5-minute mission: “Tub boldly go where no presidential quote has gone before.”

Personally, I always thought of the bathroom as my think tank. It’s the only place quiet enough to get a good thought in. And the acoustics are great when you finally say, “Yesssss!”

INGSOC: I haven’t been online since Friday, 2/24, so this is in response to your comment regarding my cute avatar you left me that day:

I had never seen a hummingbird in person until I met my husband-to-be almost 24 years ago. I lived in Indiana and his parents lived on a farm in Georgia. The first time he ever took me there to meet them, his mother had a hummingbird feeder filled with bright red nectar hanging in front of their screened-in porch. All day long that summer, we’d watch those tiny, sweet little birds — dozens of them — coming down from their nests in the trees to get themselves a drink before flying off again (my favorite was the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, similar to the one pictured here). My in-laws have since passed away so we don’t get down there much anymore and I really miss getting to watch “her” hummingbirds play and drink their nectar every day. I inherited my dear mother-in-law’s feeder when she passed away in 2003 but I haven’t put it out because I don’t see hummingbirds around here. But my husband and I often talk about moving further south one of these days and when we do, I’ll put it out then and I hope that we’ll get to enjoy the company of these sweet little birds again and remember how much my mother-in-law loved and enjoyed them when she was still with us.

While I agree with Teddy on this one. It is easy to say when you come from an affluent family.
