The 1864-70 War of the Triple Alliance in South America resulted in the deaths of 2/3 of Paraguay's adult man! Helicopter pilot Col. Latifa Nabizada is Afghanistan's only female pilot, and because the Afghan Air Force has no childcare facilities, her 5 -year-old daughter Malalai has accompanied her on more than 300 missions! The dwarf lantern shark, a species found off the coast of South America, only grows to about 6-8 inches in length!

The 1870s must have been a fun time to be an adult male in Paraguay!
