Welcome back Linda and Pete. Well, conversation leans to the emotional side with Linda. Or more like NO emotions..So they sleep on the deck like old time sailors? I still like him. He is sympathetic and apparently kind. Blessed BE
The guy’s got a point! I can’t say I have ever seen an angry koala. I can’t say that I feel sorry for Linda knowing what she probably has done to other mutants; but she definitely had a lot going on over the last few days.
I’m thinking the whole ship and everything on it that’s not either alive, edible, or a personal belonging is a ditto… This would explain the balloon’s ability to hold the whole thing aloft… But instead of being the hollow shells they normally create, their creations for Aaron have a bit more substance to them, most likely because this interesting fellow has some sort of very special relationship with them… They seem to do his bidding, which means that perhaps he can subconsciously control them, or direct them… Perhaps the dittos “eat” the junk he has them pick up, convert the stuff into more dittos, which have become essentially “tame” over time, at least for him… I’m betting that if Flask were to displease him, he could have the dittos just ensnare her, or let her sink right through the floor, and out of the whole ship entirely, or some such thing… I really can’t wait until the whole truth is revealed…
Not only is she unable to go back to her kid, her kid could be the one chasing after her taking her brain… but if I were a topsider who loved his mom I wouldn’t be able to do anything just stare as someone else did the thing…
What a lovely moment of quiet reflection.Mr Neathery has the emotional timbre exactly right. Petey is asking the logical questions we want to ask. Linda is grappling with too many totally incomprehensible changes even to take it in.This story really is a masterpiece.
There have been “angry koala” sights That might even keep you awake nights Take a look at this take: The sounds that they make Are as much “weird” as leading to frights! =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum And don’t forget to nominate both For Ursa Major awards!
Given the extreme events each of our little group has been through over the space of the last 48 (Endtown) hours, this little interlude with AM is just what the doctor ordered. It’s a chance to catch their breath and start to adjust to the changes they all have experienced. I suspect it is in preparation for something that lies ahead.
As a side note, I’ve heard that the reason why you almost never see angry koalas is that the eucalyptus leaf is a mild hallucinogen. So basically, koalas are constantly high!
Yesterday, Coyoty mentioned Mr. Am from Little Orphan Annie as being similar in some respects to Aaron Marx. He reminds me of Mr. Am also. Like Mr. Am, I think he should be used sparingly, popping in occassionally to help a character realize something important (and bring “Daddy” Warbucks back to life!) But if he sticks around for very long he could take over the strip. A character like this, if not handled very carefully, can unbalance a story and overwhelm the other characters. That said, Mr. Neathery looks like a very good writer who can handle the challenge. Lookin’ forward to Monday…
Tie me kangaroo down, sportTie me kangaroo down.Tie me………..oh sorry, just got caught up in the moment. Must be the lack of a heart/gut-wrenching cliff hanger this week. Have a good weekend all!
Oh, I have a feeling some bad suprise is waiting for poor Linda. I don’t think she must be hated for what she was as a topsider. She’s a whole new person now, had her world opened up and she sees from more perspective now.
Ges Who, and all those who talk about stoned koalas: the story about koalas being perpetually drugged out on eucalyptus… is a myth. Sorry, but there is not a grain of truth in it.Koalas spend almost their whole life in trees as a safety strategy. In eucalyptus forests, all there is to eat is the very undigestible leaves. These have very little food value, and so their caloric intake is low. That’s why, even though they have the capacity to move quickly and run or fight hard, they spend most of the day motionless. Not because they’re sedated by eucalyptus oil, but because they have very limited food energy. (It’s a similar set-up, I believe, with giant anteaters conserving their energy due to a calorie-poor diet of ants. Am I correct, Crooked Wolf?)You will not often see an angry koala, but when a male is aggressively pursuing an unwilling female, it can be very vigorous indeed.
It’s true to say that Linda is now a different person than she was as a human Topsider. She not only looks and (and we have now learned) sounds different, she also thinks differently. So, back at the time she was feeling herself beginning to mutate, she really was right to kiss goodbye to the self she knew. Hello to new instincts and temperaments. Her former arrogance and cruelty may be tempered by some docility that comes with her new brain. Wally hung on to his notion for a long time that he was still his old human self, caught in an animal-shaped holding pattern. So did Gustine. There was and is the fear of losing the essence of your personality as it becomes swamped by the animal instincts. There is a grain of truth in this. With change, there is some loss, but the change is irrevocable nonetheless. Holly has learned the wisdom, probably more than any of the crew, of handling the changes, rather than confronting them.I hope Holly can eventually work some of her healing on Linda. But a lot of apology and insight is going to have to flow under the bridge before then. I mean, Linda had recently been relishing the prospect of listening to Wally scream while being forced to watch his girlfirend’s skull being sawn open. That sort of thing takes a little patching over.

Given the timing, AM is either really fast, the ship is really small, or there are 3 AMs. It’s early, it’s hard to tell.

“Mr. Marx, don’t get me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”No comments from our Aussie friends on the natural state of koala emotions?

It’s also a myth that animals with energy-poor diets will only eat that diet. They will eat meat when they can get it.
