Red and Rover by Brian Basset for February 10, 2012
Transcript:
Den dad Bob? Yes, Red? Is it true you were the first scout to place an unopened can of baked beans in a campfire to get it to explode hot bean shrapnel everywhere? I wasn't the first. But I was just the first to admit to it. A scout is always truthful. You got caught.

Sorry if this week’s strip isn’t meant for you. For those with fond memories of Cub Scouting or those still involved (and that is an audience in the millions) it’s a rare treat.
As Scouting is obviously part of this Boy’s Life, just Do Your Best to Grin and Bear It and look forward to the next story line.

Jeez, it must be complaint day. I just came from Stone Soup where someone else was complaining about that story line. Seriously, people, these are comics! If you don’t want to read them or think they are funny or don’t like the story line, then don’t read them! Story lines are typically Monday – Saturday, so you can figure out by Tuesday if you should come back the rest of the week or not.I come here to escape from the daily grind of people complaining and claiming that they have “the right” to be a PITA. Yes, we all have a “right” to express our opinions, but as my mother said (and I know she’s not the only one), “if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say it at all”. There are plenty of times that I don’t like the comic, but I move on to the next one and that’s it. Stop ruining it for the ones who do like it. Grr.

While I don’t know anyone in the Boy Scouts, I’m still enjoying this storyline. Thank you, Brian, for recognizing a part of a lot of people’s lives and for the good that the Scouts do.

I used to think that we were the only Scouts who did that!

Let’s not forget, “physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight”, while we’re at it!

I love this strip! I was raised in the late 50’s and early 60’s and its exactly right on for the period and there are so many awwwwww moments that it is a pure delight and I dont miss a day of Red and Rover. The pita’s are what they are and can comment all they like as its the volume of comments and community involvement that keeps a strip going and I bet you that the artist’s involved read these comments and can try to be better even if I personally think they are already perfect!!.There, now I have put my 2 cents in!<3

Goodness people this is Scouting Anniversary Week.
While many comix mention Scouting on occasion, Brain Bassett is one of the few (maybe the only?) comic author who actually remembers Scouting Anniversary Week every year, and as a former Cub Scout I really appreciate him for doing that.
For those of you who are not into Scouting, this theme will end in a day or so; in the meantime, please allow the rest of us to enjoy it.
