They do better than I do. I had to hunt all over the house in 4 rooms for all the receipts. Good news is I finished and did not own this year. Bad news is they got 5 years to “review” my math.

Interesting how everybody assumes “Tax Time”- could be just last year’s “honey, do” lists.

These days I’m pay as you earn and don’t have to worry about these things. But years ago when I was self employed, the Inland Revenue sharks took me to court claiming I owed them around £100. Turned out the owed me £600. :oD

There’s a certain amount of truth to this. Wives pursue tedious, mundane tasks with the same zeal that husbands pursue sex…only husbands usually can’t escape those tasks by feigning a headache.

Canada Revenue says they won’t pay you a refund if it’s under $2, but, if you owe them even ONE CENT, they’ll spend countless hours, and money on getting it from you!!..Just this year, the Ontario Government, decided IT knew how best to deliver the money. So instead of ONE lump sum (around $900) I’ll be getting monthly deposits of around $75. (I had planned on buying a recumbent bike with that money!)

Doing what you can to keep more of what you’ve earned is cheating?

Don’t know if you know about the Harry Redknapp case but he is a football manage the inland revenue took to court. The IRS lost decisively. I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall back at the office when the verdict came through. I bet there wre purple faces, clenched fists and tantrums by IRS staff,

Who does John’s dental business taxes? Between that and his household taxes, he’s got to get a year’s worth of paperwork organized. I learned the hard way that it’s sooo much easier to just take a few mins a week to record receipts and stubs and then it’s almost ready to go when the time comes.

Don’t hate me cuz I’m organized. Haha. Actually it took me about 10 yrs to learn that. I hate paperwork!

Ever notice it takes several WEEKS to get your refund checks? Once, I owed them, sent the check by mail to KCMO, and it cleared the bank in two business DAYS!

Back in the early 50s, my dad got audited. Seems they were questioning the amount deducted for hog feed. So, he showed the auditor the field with 600 pigs (a large herd then) and when the audit was over, it was determined they owed him a refund.Never bothered again for nearly 30 years.

For most, the deadline is April 30 in Canada (where this strip was/is drawn). Perhaps Elly’s expecting a refund (John not so much).

How is taking the legally available deductions cheating? If you are making enough to live on, you are probably shorting yourself. Or, using your train of thought, who is paying your way? I bet that they use the long form. There are two groups of people that are now occupying this country, net tax payers and net tax consumers. Which group do you represent?
