CEO’s push lower managers to increase production and profit so stockholders, the ones sitting down, can increase their incomes at the expense of the guy working his butt off trying to make a living and is barely able to just get by.
Supply and demand. Most engineers could carry ladders, paint and plumb if they have to whereas most of the manual laborers probably could not do an engineering job.
Many who “sit” get paid little. Some who “stand” get paid lots. Those who get paid the most are often “standing”, as they walk around giving orders to their “sitting” underlings..Doctors and lawyers “stand”. Clerical workers “sit”.
