The last time we saw Wally sweating so profusely while having a dream was when he almost died in the Endtown hospital. Holly was there by his side then as well. The guy’s got what many of guys wish we had, a good woman beside us.
We Must Get Away (to the tune of Up Up and Away) Now that you’re awake in this very strange balloon— How much can we take in this very strange balloon? We’re surviving battle scars together, you and I We thought we’d die We knew we’d die We must get away From this very strange and quite deranged balloon This room’s a nicer place than the war we fought below But somehow there’s a trace of some thing that we should know We can dream along — your nightmare’s strong — what did you see For you and me? What is to be? We must get away From this very strange and quite deranged balloon Abducted into the sky like old debris This ship’s got someone quite odd to guide us And if by chance we find a way to get free He seems to want to charm us But might intend to harm us My love, you’re with me here in this very strange balloon Your tail is showing fear in this very strange balloon If you hold me tight we’ll live to see another day We’ll get away! We’ll get away! We’ll get clean away From this very strange and quite deranged balloon Away… Love, let’s get away… =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum And don’t forget to nominate both For Ursa Major awards!
Good touch with that tail, and unexpected, as well.As regards the dream, I’m getting more and more convinced that it is not just a nightmare, but an AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL nightmare. I’m holding to to what I said. That look of terror on Wally’s face yesterday is not the kind of look that says, “Why would I dream about such a terrible thing as that?” It’s the look of someone who knows EXACTLY why he is dreaming that particular dream. Thanks to Jan Bic for giving that August 23, 2011 reference. When Flask says, “Hello, what have we here?” her expression fits perfectly if she is also thinking to herself, “Wallechinsky? Wallechinsky’s here? And wouldn’t he be just perfect!”When Wally was serving under Flask she didn’t look like she does now. And that’s not just referring to her face. I’m thinking that everything in Wally’s nightmare is a memory, except for Flask’s mutated face. Her name was probably different too. Neither would have recognized the other because of their mutations. Flask’s, “Hmph…You’re shorter than I’d expected.” suggests that she remembers his pre-mutant appearance, and he was taller then. In Monday’s final panel, they both seem to be about the same height.
Flask’s attitude toward Wally’s skills has always been the same as Kirk toward Spock’s “guesses”. She KNOWS him, like she knows Petey, except professionally. Which is why she feels so betrayed that they don’t know her as well, or who she was, and don’t follow her like they used to. She may have thought she had the advantage over them, knowing their identities when they don’t know hers, but her advantage has backfired. Now she may be afraid of how they’ll react when they do find out, and she’s putting it off instead of accepting it, just like she’s not accepting her mutation.
Fenrissulfr is on to something. Good deductive reasoning!
Of course, this is Endtown, therte’s no guarantee that something logical and sensible is the truth. We never know what will be a Patented Neathery Twist – but those never come for their own sake, but because of Masterful Misdirection™.
Flask is no more an ex-soldier than Holly is, and Holly would have been a better one. Flask hasn’t changed her name, the TSers knew her as Flask before she mutated. I freely admit that I am guessing just as much as Fenrisulfer, but I’m convinced that there is no possible way this nightmare reflects a historical link between Flask and Wally. I believe Wally has a troubled past, but Philomena wasn’t part of it. Now watch me be totally wrong… ;-)
Why are so many people taking Wally’s dream literally? I had a dream where I was back in college again, taking an exam I naturally wasn’t prepared for since that’s how nightmares work, and the professor proctoring the test was my boss. My boss was never one of my professors; my psyche just chose him as an applicable intimidating authority figure. I’m sure it’s the same deal here. Shoot, we’re probably only seeing the (bushy-) tail end of Wally’s dream; I bet it started with Flask as his meanest high school teacher, telling him he wasn’t going to graduate b/c he failed to turn in a final project for a class he didn’t even know he was taking.
I still don’t understand why everyone seems to think Flask knew Wally before this… everything makes a lot more sense if they DIDN’T know each other, I think…
Wally has an aversion to killing He has shown this in stories we’ve seen Flask, of course, is both vicious and willing To kill anyone — Blackie is mean But does this mean the two were acquainted? I don’t think so — the statements don’t fit Flask kept testing — and he wasn’t tainted By some recognized “I know her!” bit Both would carry their names pre-mutation They’ve not taken on “Panther” or “Cat” Thus they’d spot them in this situation And I’m seeing here no trace of that But it’s clear that our boy is upset With killing he’s recently done So the dream here just seems a safe bet He’s imagined himself with a gun And imagined Flask leading the slaughter And that guns were old-fashioned and gruesome But her previous job had no charter For that work. Sweat Dreams (Pronounce it however you like).Been a bit crazy at work, so I haven’t been commenting as I should. But I AM voting! Can you believe a bongo got caught in her fence?!? Just one of many emergencies!
Whiffle butter biscuit boy is very steam punk I don’t trust him at all. He has more or less threatened Linda and Blackie. These guys need a rest. they need to get to some place where they feel safe.
I believe it was a bad dream triggered by his guilty concious. He knows that the MUTTs he blew away back there trying to distroy a fake rocket were once human. So in effect he has committed a blood bath at the direction of Flask for no justifiable reason. – just as in the dream – If you shoot civilians believing that they are enemy troops, it is still colateral damage.

Given Captain Marx’s humor, it’s something that tastes delicious when eaten, but sounds disgusting when described.
“See? What did I tell you about useless information? I could tell you they’re chilled monkey brains and you’d have to believe me!”

“They’re ice cream sundaes, actually. Despite when they used to say, the two really don’t taste anything alike.”
