Moondog: Please don't touch the art... please don't touch the art... please... let me know if want a little dab of hand sanitizer or a wet wipe or somethin'...
So I have a “museum” question – I know why you can’t TOUCH the art…but why can’t you take pictures? I was at the art museum in Houston and there was a no camera policy. So I just took them when no one was looking.
I quit reading comments for a few days and this is what I am greeted with? It.’s time, once again, to take up arms. Everyone grab your pencils (or crayons) and flood gocomics inbox!
Barbara Hepworth used to say you SHOULD touch her sculptures the better to appreciate the textures. For the best results, use your tongue not your fingers … then the sanitizer would come in handy.
Time and handprints are probably the worst things for paintings. I remember seeing a story on the restoration of the Sistene (sp?) chapel. I love going to museums whenever I’m in a different city as North Dakota is somewhat lacking in them (cities and musuems). While living in San Diego for many years, I lived very close to Balboa Park that houses most of the city’s musuems. Just fun to go through on a weekday when I wasn’t working. Another thing that has destroyed more art than anything are battles/war. I saw a story (another one!) on how much art was stolen or destroyed during WWII. It is sad to think we might never get to see these works again
During the 2010 Olympics we were given new white cotton gloves so we could handle the Olympic medals on display. The display was well worth the line up. Cameras were permitted, just not certain poses. Got some great pics and I still have those white cotton gloves.

Moonie! A gallery guard must be ever vigilant! Not “vigilant except when confronted by a huge bruiser”!

With that “iron cross” on his neck I’d be careful Moondog as he could be troubled.

Why would anyone allow that dirty hoodlum in the museum?

Flashes are bad, but tbh there is no reason to not take flash-less photos.
