    Ah, but you have to remember that Stephen Bentley is an Episcopalian. “The thinking man’s church.” We accept gays and women and evolution. In short, we have open minds Not a contradiction.

    Yes, Episcopalians are “The thinking man’s church”. But you have to admit that Fred Phelps and his clan represent an element of religion with very closed minds.

    An open mind will look at evidence and change one’s mind when the evidence leads that way. There is no evidence of any god or supernatural. Continuing to live as though these superstitions are real is not an open mind – it is a closed mind.

    I believe Christ had some good ideas that are worth paying attention to. Whether or not he was Divine is largely irrelevant, but for many people it’s worth dying for or killing over. We as a species are at our worst when we’re missing the point.
