I expected the final line would be “I am not a hussy” because dim-witted and gold-digger do apply. She’s not a gold digger who cares about nothing but money, but money is still very attractive to her.
So, is Bob single? And straight? Of course, getting Lila happily married would be like taking Frank Burns out of MASH. The only immediate conflicts would be, will the little girl stay in remission; will Lila get fired again, in spite of her friend’s best efforts; will Boyd “find somebody” and have less time for Lila, or even leave the strip? Okay, I guess that would be enough tension…
You know, I have to say that the commentary on this strip is a bit more erudite than most of the other strips comments that I read. Refreshingly so at that!.JWF: thank you again for charactor’s that we all relate to!
She’s not a gold-digger; turning down the old biddy’s money shows that. Dim-witted and hussy she can address later. I second Linda Dean’s comment above – great characters, flaws and all. Lila is appealing because, like so many of us, she muddles through and has moments she shines like a star, and moments she falls in the mud.

Hmmm…did she say no?
Or did she simply not go with Matthew, so Mommy Dearest wouldn’t faint again when she saw her?
Of course, that’s assuming he either took his mother home or followed the ambulance.

They’re at the hospital now, Susan. She’s waiting on the good doctor now.

And she shouldn’t be a hussy either. Why are women called names when they sleep with someone outside of a relationship, and men aren’t?

I bet she ends up dating Bob.

“UTHBTHANITARY?!?!?”
Personally, Drygrub Willie, I prefer Winchester to Burns – you get internal as well as external conflict.

Only the One Armed Man really understands the meaning of the term, “Coyote Ugly”.
