When the kids were little, we thought about getting rid of the TV. Uh-huh. Of course, we didn't because we had our favorite shows and the news and all. Yes. Well, thinking back on all those years, can you remember any treasured moment involving the TV? No. Are we getting rid of it now? Not right this minute. The game's about to come on again. Uh-huh.

We just got a new TV for the kitchen. A little squirt that perches on top of the microwave. It gets dozens upon dozens of unexpected channels… who knew that there were so many 24/7 shopping and churching channels? Wow! Many of them in HD. I think I prefer the old pre-all-digital TV with the built-in VHS. It got channels, I knew where my favorites were, and I could record any of them I liked. Now? Gotta pay an extra $17 a month for the cable DVR, and learn which four channels I like out of several hundred.

Visiting friends with color TVs for The Wizard of Oz (introduced by Danny Kay). Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, with pre-microwave popcorn, every year, and the Mary Martin Peter Pan and playing Tinkerbell afterward with the flashlight. All else entertaining, but short of precious.

Got home Saturday evening from 4 day convention in Boston. Before the next one, I will get a Kindle Fire or something similar. My laptop got very heavy after lugging it to classes for several days. Tablet would give me a couple minutes to read toons between classes as well as download handouts, etc on the fly.

Got rid of our sattelite subscription and just ordered netflix. Best thing we ever did. Now my family reads more, talks to each other, plays outside more.
