I have no trouble cooking just for me and one little bird. I use a lot of freezer bags and other containers though, My pizzas are sandwich bag size, and serving portions of homemade soups freeze abd thaw easily (as do blanched vegetables like yams, green beans and my Cuban black beans).
I make the family-sized portions and then have lunch to bring to work for the rest of the week. Or I freeze it if I don’t want to eat the same the for several days running.
funny in that that Math part of cooking is part of the enjoyment, substituting, shuffling what’s called for with what’s on hand… etc… ie: a recipe is just a place to start.
Just add spices to taste rather than following the recipe exactly. Or make the entire recipe and freeze it, or invite friends over for dinner. Not that difficult, Norm…
I had the same concerns when I was single… sometimes it’s just easiest to make the recipe in as small of a level as you can (1/2 or 1/4) and eat it for 2-4 meals. It’s MUCH cheaper than eating out or buying the pre-made meals and it typically takes me 3 meals of the same thing to get sick of it. ;-()
I’m with Vldazzle and CCMMJJ, I cook large amounts and freeze. Do the same with things that go bad before I can finish. 1CMilk fits nicely in a pint (cottage cheese) container. Any container that can be washed is re-usable and doesn’t make it to trash until it’s worn out or breaks.
