It isn’t a “boondoggle”, there are less expensive hybrids out there now. I have a 2006 Prius that I bought new and I’ve saved $10,000 in gas over my old Pathfinder. And if you think $38K means “private jet and Hollywood entourage” you’re completely detatched from reality. Most pickups and SUVs cost more than that.
Same way with “eco-friendly” or organic foods….they are so expensive!!! You can either eat organic food three days a week or processed food seven days a week……
$38,000!!!! Where are they shopping? In So Cal a fully loaded 2012 Prius doesn’t reach the $30,000 mark, and it can be as low as $23,000. Besides the mileage (between 45 and 48 mpg in my old one), it’s a great car. (no, I am not a Prius salesman, but if I were I would love to sell it for 38t)

Saving the planet only costs “a little more”. Who do you know that has “a little more” to spare?

I been “green” long before hybrids were made!

It’s possible to convert some cars to hybrids without spending the $ to buy a brand-new one… and they can still save a lot of $ for you.

Of course their original plan of bicycling to work and taking the bus would save the planet also….

I so agree with you! Each generation seems to think they’re the last.

Strange, the Prius seems to cost $30,000 for the full model and $24,000 for the base model around here.

@Senex Except that most of the “good products” made by US companies are made abroad. You’re not really supporting anyone in the US except the CEO.
