    Fairportfan2 has it right. The original bodkin was commonly used in assassinations. The term “Odds Bodkin” derives from that since the left, or odd, hand was commonly used. The reason being it was less watched and thus a little more likely to be unnoticed.

    Also a narrow tool used to adjust hand-set type. I may be old, but I can still set type from a California case.

    Sounds like the time I operated on myself in an attempt to remove a piece of graphite that’s been in my arm since age 5 when my brother stabbed me with a pencil. I used my biology lab dissecting kit. FAILED. That piece is still in my arm after 60 years………… My roommates came in from bball practice, took one look and left the room!
