Chilly church! Residents of Mitterfirmiansreut, Germany, built a church from snow and ice in December 2011, complete with a 63 foot tall tower! NASA's Mars Rover Opportunity has operated for more than eight years and what was originally planned to be a three-month mission! Immediately after emerging from their pupae as adults, male stalk eyed flies suck in air and inflate their heads like a balloon before the skin hardens!

Along the same lines – the space telescope was heavily bashed because one lens wasn’t quite right when it first went into orbit. But – what wasn’t noted at the time, that even with the not-quite-right lens that it was still 10X sharper than anything on Earth!(Is the glass half-full or half-empty)

Germans were good at compounding words. One of the longest in English was antidisestablishmentenism, (sp) ie the movement opposing the King’s desire to dis-establish the Catholic Church in England. (The King won out, and Webster recently dropped the word for lack of usage.)
