Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for May 06, 2012
Transcript:
Pig: Hey, Neighbor Willy! Want to fly to mars? Willy: Can't. Have to study. Pig: Why? Willy: I need a 4.6 G.P.A. Pig: What for? Willy: To get into a top-tier, ivy league school. Where, if I work really hard, I can get a degree and then a six-figure job. Where, if I work even harder, I can make a lot of money for many years. Which, if everything goes right, will allow me to retire comfortably at 65. Pig: Then what? Willy: Then maybe I'll have a couple years left before I die.

A box is anything you want it to be, but always a box-load of fun! —And, sadly, the only way to Mars from the space-deprived USA….

Is a 4.6 possible? I thought 4.0 was top.

So I said to my parents," I’ll just take the first year off to back pack around the universe and then I’ll go to college".
Bilan almost 13 years ago
But if nobody works those jobs, who’s going to make the box you fly to Mars in?
Bilan almost 13 years ago
On he flip side, getting a a 4.6 gpa will bar you from becoming a cartoonist.

With the state of things today, don’t expect to be able to retire at 65. Either you’ll have to keep working past the age of retirment just to have a little to live on for you’re planned last couple of years, or the company you work for will fire you before you reach retirement age so they can try to get away with not haveing to pay retirement benefits.

Two schools of thought: In theory, nothing is better than an A, because A means excellent. How can you get better than that? But, since some classes have an extra credit component, in theory, it you complete all the course work excellently and do a bang up job on the extra credit, you should get a better grade. I don’t think that is allowed at the university level, but I’ve seen 4.1’s in middle and high school……4.6 is over the top…part of the joke, I think…

The only thing I see that Pastis left out is paying off student loans from the Ivy League College and grad degrees.

Is this strip taking an inspiration from the song Price Tag by Jesse J. Cuz, it has this line
Yeah yeahWell, keep the price tagAnd take the cash backJust give me six streams and a half stackAnd you can keep the carsLeave me the garageAnd all I..Yes all I need are keys and garageAnd guess what, in 30 seconds I’m leaving to MarsYes we leaving across these undefeatable oddsIts like this man, you can’t put a price on lifeWe do this for the love so we fight and sacrifice everynightSo we aint gon stumble and fall neverWaiting to see, a sign of defeat uh uhSo we gon keep everyone moving there feetSo bring back the beat and everybody sing
Funny thing is the video shows the 2 artists flash backing to their childhood toys. THe gist of the video is that how the beatup childhood toys made them happy
